Default Newer style GE washer "3phase" motor
Model Number: Wjr4170g1ww   Brand: GE   Age: 5 - 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

This GE top loader washer does not have a conventional single phase motor with typical start capacitor. Instead it has a motor with a sophisticated circuit board attached to the top of it directly below the tub! It also has a much smaller motor pulley and much larger tub pulley...similar to a front loader design.
Washer will not agitate or spin. I thought I found the problem when I discovered the lid switch was not closing the circuit so I jumped it out with a splice. I also checked the power filter and it is good.
I now get power to the motor but still no run.
Did not find a wire diagram or tech sheet in the console area so I'm blind to seeing any helpful circuit data.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

If the lid switch was faulty, you may just need to clear the error code on the inverter. Check the flashing LED on the top right of the inverter board for an error code. If no error code, it will just flash on/off at either 1 second interval or 1/2 second. If there is an error code, it will flash the error number at a faster rate and then stay off within a 6 second period. Seven flashes indicate a lid switch error. To clear any errors, set timer to off position, unplug washer for one minute, plug back in and open/close lid 6 times within 12 seconds. You cannot leave the lid switch jumped out as the inverter board monitors the switch and if it does not detect an opening within a couple full cycles of wash, it will disable the motor.

Default Still no agitate or spin on 3phase motor

Gene, I have replaced the jumped out switch with typical traditional push button switch common on WP dryers in order to perform testing. I checked inline fuse and had continuity from machine neutral to red white motor connector. I performed the clearing method as you instructed with the timer in off location and pushed in. At no time before or after this testing, nor before writing to the forum, have I seen any green light for code purposes. The motor has a metal top shield covering the circuit board but has ample space for recognition of a illuminated or blinking light but see nothing there.
I am getting 124 volts to the red/black wire location on the unplugged connector that the red/white fused neutral is located as well as same voyage to the orange wire next to it. I have made certain for good ground on this outdoor circuit that has GFI protection. I am familiar with 3phase inverter driven motors since I retired as a industrial overhead crane electrician and I'm now thinking it may be a speed encoder, or power supply circuit due to no light. This machine had no wire diagram:-( so your help is greatly appreciated.

Check line voltages from timer to inverter rightmost connector. You should have 120vac on two of the wires depending on mode. The following chart shows proper voltages for high/low speed agitate and spin. C2 pin 3 (left connector) is neutral. C4 pin 2 thru 5 are white, blue, violet/white and red. If voltages are correct, you have a faulty motor/inverter. There is no detailed schematic for the inverter board available to techs.

Default Low voltage

Gene, on 3 or 4 of these readings I got only 38 volts. What's next? Still no green light display on motor board.

Check voltages with rightmost connector disconnected. If you are getting 38 volts where you should be getting 120 volts, then you have a timer problem. It appears also that the motor/inverter is faulty if there is no flashing LED. On newer motors it's a red LED on the right side under the white flap.

Default Connectors disconnected

I had both the c2 and c4 connectors disconnected....was I to leave the left most connected?

You have the test information and the wiring diagram. If it's not clear to you, then it isn't worth my trying to explain it to you over this forum. If you purchase parts from APP and they don't fix the problem, you can return them. If you have power to the inverter but don't have the flashing LED, then the inverter is faulty.
