Amana Washer cylinder thrown off center
Model Number: LW4302W Brand:
More than 10 years
On spin cycle, after a thump, washer stopped, as if the load was unbalanced. I rearranged laundry and jiggled cylinder back to center. This worked for a few seconds, but after another thump, washer stopped. I repeated process several times before taking clothes out to drip dry. The cycle continued as if normal with no clothes in cylinder.
A mechanically inclined friend suggested the bearing might be shot. To access the bearing, I took off the cap on top of agitator (where laundry softner goes), but can't seem to figure out what should come off next. He said the agitator would need come off, then I should see a nut that will let me get to the bearing. This looks accurate according to a web site that shows the succession of parts.
Any insight into if this might be a bearing issue? And how do I get the agitator off to access the nut to get to the bearing?
