I have a maytag sav3655aw washer. It will only drain if I lift the lid during the rinse cycle. If I forget to lift the lid the washer is full of water at the end of the wash cycle. I tried different wash settings but that did not change hep either. I replaced the lid switch but that was not the problem. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Does it just keep agitating through the whole cycle? The motor must stop after agitation at which point the polarity of the power supplied to the motor start winding is reversed so that the motor starts again in the opposite direction for drain and spin. If the motor doesn't stop, it can't reverse direction. This could be caused by a faulty timer. When you open/close the lid, you are pausing the motor via the lid switch which would then allow it to reverse direction. Eric

Is this a gas dryer? You put it in timed dry mode, and the timer doesn't move but the motor runs when you hit start?

Yes, it is a gas dryer. The dryer runs, no heat ant the timer dial does not move. I started it last night, it ran for 9 hours before I realised it was broke.

Unless your in the timed dry mode, without heat, the timer does not advance. This is normal in auto-dry mode. The no heat symptom could be caused by any number of things. Too difficult for me to try and walk you through troubleshooting this problem. I suggest you get an experienced tech to look at it, or try the dryer forum for someone else to help you.
