Default Washer pumps in aggitate cycle
Model Number: wjrr4170g1ww   Brand: GE   Age: 1 - 5 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com
I have a GE washer that is 16 months old...Model #WJRR4170G1WW. Suddenly it no longer aggitates or spins. When the timer is set to start washing, it fills the tub with water. When it moves to wash (aggitate), it then pumps the water out instead of aggitating and washing the clothes. When it goes to the rinse and spin cycle, it will fill the tub again and then pump the water out. It will not spin either. I checked the belt and it is very snug, not lose, not worn, or broken.

The first thing I would check is the drain hose. It could be too far in the drain. If it is, it will syphon the water out. I would check that first. My other question would bewhen it fills, does the agitator agitate, but the water pumps out? Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Default Washer Pumps in Aggitate Cycle

I have repositioned the hose in several places even down low to a flor drain. That does not change anything. The crazy thing about this washer is everything works just fine except for two things. The tube will fill to all water levels correctly. But when the washer suppose to aggitate and wash the clothes, the pump switches on and starts pumping the water our. It is not syphoning out. With the tub now drained, it will sit there (with the pump still running) until the "washing cycle" is completed. The it switched over to the rinse and spin cycle. Here, the tube will fill again, and then the pump comes on and pumps the water out again. When the water is pumped out, it will sit there and never spin the clothes. it is as if the timer is "out of position" in communication or something. For example, when it is suppose to aggitate, it pumps water out....And when it suppose too spin, it pumps water out. When I look at the circuit board on the motor, there are no blinking lights on the board.

I would agree with you about the timer. The only reason the pump would be getting power in the agitation cycle is the timer sending in the power. At this point I would replace the timer. The part # is WH12X10348 Tom ApplianceEducator.com - Parts

Default Washer Pumps in Aggitate Cycle

Possible solutions I tried: Lowered drain hose – no change; Check timer voltage output to motor – No problems; Checked motor and electronic board – No problems; Check LED light display (for error code flashes – Normal condition displayed; Check door switch – No problem there; Check plastic coupler under agitator – No damage; Checked belt – Not damaged, broken, or worn;

Solution that fixed the problem (at no expense cost): 1) Set the washer to the wash mode and started filling tub with water, 2) Unplugged the cord from the wall receptacle and waited one minute before plugging the washer back in, 3) Within (12) seconds, I opened and closed the door lid (6) times. Please note that the door had to be opened at least 2” to break the contact from the door switch….It also had to happen within 12 seconds….And it had to be (6) times. When I did this, the software reset itself and everything is now working perfectly. This fix took me about 2 ½ minutes to perform and cost me absolutely nothing.

Looking at the breakdown of your product, there was a timer, not an electronic control board. I did not see any electronics in your product. Where did you get the information, on the sequence to repair the product. Certainly not from GE?

Default Washer Pumps in Aggitate Cycle

There is an electronic circuit board mounted on top of the motor and has a LED light (easier to locate in the dark) that will flash the error codes. I went to the GE website, provided my model number, and watched a video that told me what to do. I can provide you that link to the video if you would like. Also, through my web searching, I located a article that was similar to the video but it did not tell me how many times to cycle the lid nor that there was a time limit to do it in.

Default Washer Pumps in Aggitate Cycle

I am more than happy to provide you a photograph or a digital drawing showing the electronic circuit board mounted above the motor. There is a drip cover that is on top of it. The intructions that were located behind the panel show it as well....And list all the flashing error codes for the LED light. I'm not making any of this up. But honest to God, there are about (4) wiring harnesses that plug into the board. When I took the front cover off of the washer, I was surprised to see the board as well....But not shocked. I started searching the prices of replacment components and found the price for the motor ranging from $157 to $225 (depending on where I bought it at). And in looking at the information on the replacement part, the drawing (picture of the motor) also shows the circuit board above the motor. It is mounted just above the motor using (4) screws and then on top of that is a metal drip pan (for protection). Let me know if you want me to send you anything about this. I am more than happy to provide you that.
