The lid on our washer (Whirlpool, WTW5600XW) does not lock. The machine will not run (Won't fill with water either) without the lock being operational. There are no codes that appear on the display. You can hear a clicking coming from the control panel area but not from the lock itself.

inspect the latch on the lid itself, make sure it is not broken. the locking latch must recieve 120v ac to activate. if voltage is there, you have a bad lid lock switch. if voltage is not there, you have a wiring or control panel problem

The lid lock solenoid does not have 120vac across it continuously. It only gets a brief 40 millisecond pulse of ac to set it to one of it's two latching positions. You can easily hear the solenoid operating so if you don't hear it, you would have to make continuity checks to rule out the solenoid coil and wiring from the control board.
