Default Washer not spinning cloths out all the way.
Model Number: PAV 2300 AWW   Brand: Maytag   Age: 5 - 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

I have a Maytag washer that pumps the water out ok but when it is spinning the cloths and it shuts off, the cloths are still very wet. I ordered a new belt thinking that was it. When I tried it again, it did the same thing. After I pulled the front panel off, it looks to me that the motor is lose. What am I missing here? Thanks Tom

The motor has a spring attached to it that allows it to pivot on the motor plate. This maintains proper belt tension and allows slippage when necessary. Make sure the plate and pivot points are clean and that the motor pivots freely. With the belt off, make sure the pump pulley rotates freely. Rotating the main drive pulley CCW should cause the pulley to rise about 3/16" which pushes up on the brake to release it allowing the basket to rotate. Remove the cover on the bottom of the pulley and you will see a reference arrow on the lower cam. When you rotate the pulley CCW that arrow should fall between two reference marks on the pulley. If it doesn't, you may need a new thrust bearing kit but first, if you can continuously rotate the pulley CCW have someone check to see if the agitator is agitating while you are rotating the pulley CCW.

Eric, The spring that you are talking about, is it the motor spring AP4027842? Also it doesn't show how it hooks to the motor and base. Tom

Yes, that's the one. On the motor plate, the edge where the two motor studs go thrugh, there is a small hole in the plate midway. One end goes in there and the other goes into a hole in the motor case at the bottom edge midway between the two studs. The spring stands up vertically.

Ok I check to see if the spring was there, an it is. With the belt on I can move the motor back and fourth and it seems like the spring isn't keeping proper tension on the motor. I double check to see if the spring was in the proper holes and it was. It looks like the thrust bearing you are talking about is worn pretty good, when I checked it, like you had mention in the first post, the agitator it working proper. When watching the cloths when the washer is working, it rotates and the agitator is agitating. It seems to me that the belt is just not tight enough to spin the tub and ring the cloths out all the way. Tom

If you rotated the pulley CCW (viewed from below) and it agitates, the transmission is bad. It should only agitate when rotated CW.
