My cabrio washer sounds like a jet taking off during the spin cycle. Believe it's the bearings. Was told by repair man that if it is bearings, then would be better just to get new washer. Mine is only approx 3 years old! Talked to a parts man and he said I would have to replace whole outer tub assembly. Doing repairs ourselves just need some guidance on what part to look at. Whirlpool Cabrio washer top loader, no agitator, HE, model # WTW5640XW0

I don't know why anyone would tell you that you have to replace the outer tub. The bearings are an integral part of the gearcase. If the problem is bearing noise, you would have to replace the gearcase. It is not serviceable otherwise. Unfortunately, this Whirlpool vertical modular washer design is a real piece of crap. You can certainly repair it if you like but your likely going to have other problems in the near future. If you get another washer, make sure it's not this design. All you have to do is tilt the washer back and look underneath. This washer design is being sold under various names such as Whirlpool, Kenmore, Maytag, Roper and others. The only decent top loader nowadays is the Speed Queen models AWN542, AWN412 and AWN432. They are expensive but they are well built and have great customer support when needed, and they actually use water to wash your clothes.
