my washing machine fills up then it doesn't agitate or spin at all. after that the burning smell comes onand there is black residue on the floor is it the belt or what . and i tried to drain the water from the tub all it does spin the pump without draining the water.

The first thing I would do is remove the belt (lift the washer from the front) and manually check how free the pump is moving. If it does not move freely - replace the pump. Check how the motor moves without the belt. - The part number for the pump is AP3447809 - The part number for the motor is AP3500351 - The part number for the belt is AP252064 Here are the break down diagrams for the Maytag washer Model MAV6200AWWGene.
