Tilt the machine back and remove the belt guard. Make sure the belt is on, the main pulley nut is tight and that you can rotate the basket by hand. If no problem found, unplug/replug cable connectors at the motor, shift actuator, pump and capacitor. Look closely for any broken wires. Get the tech manual out from under the cabinet. If it still won't work, do the same with the connectors at the control board behind the control panel. Use the manual and get into service mode and check for any errors, note them and clear them. Do the calibrate function. If it still won't work, I would replace the shift actuator. This is a high failure item. It has an rpm sensor for the basket that fails. When you first start the washer, it goes into sense mode in which it will slowly spin the basket at first. If the rpm sensor doesn't detect motion, it will shut down.

Hi.

Your washer is less then one year old. Call the Maytag for the warranty service.

Simon.

Default Thanks I have ordered the part

Thanks I have ordered the part and we will see what happens this weekend... is it possible that it could be the solenoid valve... I will report back after installing the new part.

This is my mother in Laws machine and it was purchased at a scratch and dent. It has a label on the back of the unit stating no warranty.

What is the serial number of your washer. They changed the software in these washers after a certain date due to customer complaints that no water came in after pressing the start button. That's the way the washer is designed to work. It first does a slow spin routine before adding water. With the new software, it will add water for 7 seconds after you press the start button. This was done just to make the customer think that the washer was working. How long after you press the start button does it shut down?
