Default Kenmore 90 Series Not Spinning?
Model Number: 11026912691   Brand: Kenmore   Age: 5 - 10 years

Hi,

Our Kenmore 90 Series Washer just stopped spinning. I thought it was the motor coupling but I took it apart and it's not broken at all. When we go to the spin cycle, it just makes noise, the pump spins but the actual tub doesn't spin. Any advice?

Run it with the cabinet off (lid switch bypassed) so that you can observe the clutch hub. When in spin mode, the clutch hub should be spinning. If it isn't, there's a problem with the gearcase. If it is, it could be a slipping clutch, broken brake cam driver or worn out drive block. Just remember that the normal sequence of operation is that directly after agitation, it should drain without spinning. After drain, the motor should pause for a few seconds. When it starts again, it will spin while continuing to drain.

Thanks Eric, I'll check it out and get back to this thread. I am assuming the gearcase is expensive? Would it be about the same to buy another washer?

Well the clutch is definitely not spinning but the motor in front is...looks like its new washer time or are those things "fixable"?

Are you sure the coupler is ok? You can turn the gearcase input shaft by hand while observing the clutch hub to make sure it's the gearcase. Turn it CW for spin mode. The gearcase is repairable, depending on the problem. A new one is around $180. If this washer is in good shape otherwise, clean, not rusting out, and was working fine before this problem, I think you are better off fixing it rather than buying new. This is a Whirlpool direct drive design. A proven (30 years) widely used design that unfortunately is no longer produced, thanks to government standards.

Hi
I replaced the coupling last week and everything worked fine until today.
It stopped spinning again.
I took it apart again and checked the coupling..... everything is oK
What is my next step, put it back together again and try it once more.
It that is not it, what next
Thanks

Again, you need to check the clutch hub to determine where the problem is.
