Roy, Most, if not all, control knobs are "slip on" type fits. They can be hard to pull off especially on older units, so you need to be careful.

Roy, You're welcome. You didn't supply a model number, but as Fairbanks posted, Once you get into the control console, release the locking tab and turn the switch assembly counter clockwise to remove it. Just make sure you remove power to the washer before you do anything. Thanks Again

Yes sir, i asked about this knob switch because the machine will only operate on the heavy duty speed, if you move it to regular the washer just makes a skipping tap noise and nothing works. I have not tried it on the delicate or handwash/casual speeds. This is a kenmore 80 series mod 110.20852991. I was just wondering if the switch is my problem.? what do you think?

It could be the speed switch, the motor, or connection issue. Check the 2-wire motor connection at the motor. This motor has the standard 10-pin connector as well as the extra 2-pin for the two low speeds.
