I have a Maytag top loading machine less than 4 years old. It made a screaching sound and had a burnt belt smell along with a problem not draining sometimes. Also I noticed that it did not seem to agitate as much as I thought it should. In May I replaced the pump and belt as I thought this may be the problem with it not draining. A short time later I noticed the familiar sound and smell from my washing machine followed by it not draining again. It is not agitating as well as it should and when I turned it over to take a closer look I noticed a pile of black powder type residue on the floor under the motor. Please help me determine what the issue is with my washing machine so I can get it fixed once and for all.

Even the pump has been replaced recently I would check how freely it's moving in both directions.

The Service manual might help to diagnose the problem.
