[help please]

After I communicated on the forum with expert Simon on 2-16, he suggested my problem with my washer might be the clutch. I had a repairman at my house that day, whom I had asked to bring a clutch with him. When he arrived at my house he told me the transmission could be the problem and he didn't bring the clutch. When he looked at my machine he was trying to turn the part on the bottom of the transmission where the motor coupler attaches on the 3 white nubs. He said it was hard to turn and that I need a new transmission. I didn't feel comfortable letting him install a transmission, especially when he told me the transmission itself costs $230. Would the insufficient spin also be a symptom of a faulty transmission?

Yes, but he shouldn't be so quick to condemn the gearcase. If it's really hard to rotate the input shaft CW, then he should pull the gearcase about an inch and try it again. If it's still hard to rotate, then there is a gearcase issue. If not, you could have sticking brakes, something amiss with the brake cam driver or even clothing between the tubs.
