Question GE WSXH208 Will Not Fill Tub Except on Heavy Cotton
Model Number: WSXH208A1WW   Brand: GE   Age: More than 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com
I bought a used GE WSXH208A1WW that has a couple of quirky issues. The first is that tub will only fill with water when you start on the Heavy Cottons cycle first. Medium and Light Cottons will not fill with water, nor will any other wash cycles.

So if I start on Heavy Cottons, the tub will fill, go through the wash and drain, but willl not re-fill. The timer stops at 3 o'clock and will not advance any further fill the tub for the rinse cycle. The washer is obviously stuck at this point.

I have replaced the timer with a new timer, pressure level switch, and the main circuit board at the back of the washer. Is there something that I am missing that should advance the timer and fill the tub to rinse, as well as fill the tub on other cleaning settings?

Well darn, the parts you replaced should have fixed this.

It turns out what you own is a Frigidaire model sold under the GE label. So here is a link to the Frigidaire service manual for this machine

http://www.emaservicetips.com/pdfs/3...ionWashers.pdf

Focus on the wiring to the control unit, the door lock assembly and the speed control board, but I cannot really give you much more advice.

Good luck.

sidfink43, thanks for the link and tips! I pulled up the PDF of that service manual and noticed a section titled "Timer does not advance." In the troubleshooting there is a method for checking voltage across pins of the circuit board after the washer has been allowed to run for three minutes. Do you believe that I could perform the same check once the washer STOPS operating and use the same criteria to evaluate if the problem is the circuit board or timer?

Yes, that sounds like a good idea.

Be careful not to ground any live connections.

So I checked the voltage across Pins 5 of the 6-pin and 10-pin connector once the washer stops, and I see no voltage at that point. According to the service manual, this means that the circuit board is bad. Should I try replacing that next?

Yes, if you buy from this site and that board does not fix things you can return it, but I think you will that is the solution.

Good luck.

Question

Well I have now installed a brand new circuit board and a brand new timer in the washer, and I still do not have the washer working. I took the washer to my local repair shop and even they are stumped. They believe the circuit board may be for the Frigidaire version and not for my GE washer, but I compared the part number of the new board to the original board and they are the same part number. Do you have any suggestions for what else may be causing my problems with not filling the tub on any setting but “Heavy Wash”, and also not filling the tub after the initial wash cycle has drained?

Well I am also stumped. This is definitely a control unit problem, so changing out the parts that you did should have fixed it. I don't think there is an issue with the 'GE' parts vs the 'Frigidaire' parts.

Normally I would say the next step is to contact the manufacturer, but that is going to be a problem because the GE people won't know much about the machine because it was made by Frigidaire, and the Frigidaire people will wonder why you are calling them and not the GE people. If you want to try this I suggest the Frigidaire people may be more helpful if you can get them to understand that you have the Frigidaire model sold under the GE label.

Sorry not to be more helpful, but this is very odd.

Very odd indeed! Would you suggest I pick up a board from this site and try it since I can return it if it does not work? I believe this is the correct board for my application: GE WH12X10154 Control-Sp - AppliancePartsPros.com
