Model Number: WPRE6100G0WT Brand: GE Age: 5 - 10 years
I have recently replaced the clutch (mode shifter) on my washer, but it still is not spinning. This is my first time trying to repair any appliance and I have no idea as too what is wrong with this machine. The reason why I replaced the clutch was because it was reading OL when I checked it for continuity with my meter. The new clutch read about 60 ohms so I thought this would definitly fix the problem of it not spinning. I was wrong.
The inverter also had a blinking LED light which blinks 4 times for a code of a mode shifter fault (before and after it was replaced). I tried to reset the faults by opening/closing the lid 5 or more times withing 12 seconds of plugging in the unit but still had no luck. I have also checked the fuse. I did noticed that the inverter is not giving the clutch any voltage which should be around 30 VDC according to the tech manual (C7 pins 1 & 2). I check C2 and this gives 9 VDC for all of its pins. Can someone please help me out as to what my next option would be? I am thinking its the inverter board but I need some expert advice. Thanks in advance. Ads By Google Related Models |

For one thing, a bad mode shifter would not prevent spin unless it had a serious mechanical failure. The mode shifter coil is de-energized for spin mode and energized for agitate mode.
Have you checked the lid switch? I assume you meant C4, pin 1 thru 4 with respect to pin 5, for the 9vdc in spin mode? If so, the main control is sending the correct voltage for spin. If the lid switch is good, I'd say you have a bad motor/inverter. GE always recommends replacing both motor/inverter and mode shifter when either of them is bad. Eric |

Yes. I did check the lid switch and the fuse. So is the clutch bad if it is reading OL when it is removed out of the system? Would like to know because if it doesnt neccasarily mean it is bad then I can return this part. I figured it was open since it read OL and this should be reading 60 ohms. I will go ahead and try the inverter/motor; thanks for the advice. |
