Model Number: WNSE4200 Brand: GE Age: More than 10 years
I have a GE Profile top loading machine, 12 years old. I recently replaced the belt because the spin cycle wasn't removing water. Now, during the wash cycle when it agitates, there is a VERY loud noise and the tub moves left and right about 1-2 inches each way (I removed front panel to see this). I'm not sure if the tub should be moving at this time. Any help will be much appreciated.

It looks like from this angle that the clutch on the bottom of the motor (motor pulley) has fallen down on the shaft too far and it hitting the bottom of the washer. (I can't see it good enough to tell for sure)
There should be a clip holding it on you may have lost the clip. At the bottom of this page there is a picture (the last picture) that shows the motor upside down with the clip on the clutch (showing how to remove the clip) see if your clip is still in place or not. GE Washer Disassembly Guide |

Yes, I agree with that. I'm amazed that the pin on the shaft is still engaging the clutch. Here's what it should look like. Here's the clip if that's what is needed. Any time the clip is removed, you are not supposed to re-use it but replace with new one.

you guys are so helpful! thank you so so much. i have dismantled the machine and found the clip off of the motor/clutch assembly. I'm going to find a new clip somewhere and replace it. I'll let you know the outcome. Thank you again.

I would suggest removing the motor and remove the pulley/clutch to check the clutch lining and clean and lubricate it. Here is a good video on how to do it.
