If the door of your LHW0050PQ front loading washer will notunlock, do not search the web for help. Whirlpool will not help you; all thesuggestions I have read are bogus; it makes me wonder if there is a conspiracyto keep this very simple "fix" a secret from all except therepairman. Through trial and erroralone, I found the answer, as outlined below:

1. Remove the dryerfrom atop the washing machine.

2. Unscrew the twoscrews in the back of the machine that attaches the top cover of the washer,and remove the top by flipping it forward.

3. You will see anapproximate 1" by 4" primarily black plastic part on the inside ofthe front panel, opposite the outside latch.

4. With flashlight,note slot on side of above part furthest from latch.

5. With flashlight inleft hand and flat edged screw bit in right hand, put flat edge into slot anddrag slot toward the latch and latch will click open.
