The new basket arrived today. It came with the hub and balance ring installed. The only differences between it and the old basket are:
-The new one has only five rows of holes on the side instead of seven. The bottom two rows are missing. -The holes in the bottom of the new one are half the diameter of those on the old. -There are only half as many horizontal ribs down on the side on the new one as on the old; the rows are twice as far apart. I did not observe any size differences. It particular, the bottom wasn't offset differently from the hub - I had expected it would be, to compensate for some difference between the new and old hubs. After installing it I tried washing a load, and got the same results as when I first installed the new hub but before I drilled the holes: incomplete draining on the spin cycle. Next I'll try lifting the washer up a bit to see if the 7' high drain opening has anything to do with it. I'm through spending money on this thing. |

I finally got around to lifting the washer off the floor a bit. I lay two tires next to each other and put the unit in top of them, which lifted it almost 8" off the floor.
I observed no change during the first spin cycle. As usual there was lots of sloshing, and I had to stop it a couple of times and drain it with the basket stopped. But the final spin cycle drained perfectly. I'm not calling it victory, but it's progress. Maybe if I pump up the tires I'll get an extra half inch or so. |

So I pumped up the tires and got the washer another inch higher. I've found that if I shake the drain hose a bit during the spin cycle I can eventually get it to drain on its own.
I really don't understand how changing the hub could have anything to do with this, but that's the only thing that changed. |

No new developments, but I did notice a couple of things:
1. According to the user's manual, "Top of drain outlet should be less than 8 ft. above floor." According to that I shouldn't have to lift up the washer. 2. There's a small diagonal rib molded into the inner wall of the tub above the drain hole. It doesn't look like it has much hydrodynamic effect, but it does look like something should fit into it, like a guide to push water down into the drain during the spin cycle. Is that what it's for? The cutaway parts diagram hides the rib and doesn't mention anything that might fit into it. |
