my washer runs thru the entire wash cycle(s) but it does not drain or
spin even though the timer runs thru the entire cycle. The only way I
can drain, rinse and spin is to manually back up the timer to the correct
spot and pull out the dial. One other malfunction involves the lid closure
switch, even with the lid open the washer will continue to spin at full
speed. I am wondering if my drain,rinse and spin malfunctions are related
to the lid switch or some other problem

I don't think the problems are related, although they might be. First replace the timer and see if that fixes both problems. That should fix your first problem. If the lid switch problem is not fixed then look for a short circuit in the lid switch circuit.
