Model Number: MVWC450XW3 Brand: Maytag Age: 1 - 5 years
Hi guys and thanks in advance for any help.
The washing machine will lock the lid and go into sensing mode with a few grunts and clicks. After that all it will do is set with a blinking lid lock light. It will not fill, agitate or spin. I'm leaning toward replacing the electronic control but it's a bit pricey and I'd like to know if you think that might possibly fix this machine? BTW... It broke down one day after the warranty expired!! What luck! Thanks Ads By Google Related Models Last edited by c3nunley : 01-08-2013 at 04:02 PM. Reason: Adding additional info |

Hi.
The washer with the model number you posted doesn't have a control board or locking lid lock. Please check and re post. Simon.

I checked the model number and the correct one is posted. For some reason if I click the model number it changes the number. Here's a link to a parts list and blow out for the above machine.

Model number looks good to me. This is a new Whirlpool VMW design. They have been very problematic. Loose connections, broken wires, the shift actuator is a high failure item, lot of bad control boards, lid locks, gearcases, loose nuts on the main drive pulley...etc.
There is a manual inside the cabinet that will have troubleshooting tips and the procedure to get into diagnostic mode to check for error codes and test functions. You can get to it either from the bottom or you will have to open the top panel. I would first inspect all plugs for tightness and broken wires at the control unit and underneath the washer at the shift actuator, capacitor and motor. My best guess would be the shift actuator. It has a sensor that detects rpm of the basket and will give the exact symptoms you have if it is bad. There is a way to test this thing with a multimeter. A website has been created to help people troubleshoot these machines. Eric Last edited by fairbank56 : 01-09-2013 at 06:10 AM. |
