I have read that if the agitator turns in both directions it is bad and mine does turn in both directions. So I pulled the agitator off and the coupling under it. But the splinned shaft under it will also turn in both directions and it is real loose in the housing it comes up through. You can actually see down in the housing beside the shaft when you hold it to one side. What do I need to do?
Thanks
Robert

Your transmission is shot and needs to be replaced.

Thanks for the reply! I will probably go ahead and replace the machine since it is 7 years old.

If your machine is in good shape otherwise, you may be better off having it repaired than buying new. I am amazed at the number of complaints and breakdowns of the new washers that I see and read about on youtube and washer forums. I replaced my own transmission in my GE washer earlier this year. I refuse to by one of these new pieces of crap.

Hey thanks fairbanks56 I checked at Sears and they are having a closout on last years GE models. They have one like mine with the same style agitator as mine for $320.00. They have the newer style with the pulsing agitator, are these the ones that are no good or are you talking about all of them.
