Does it fill, agitate and drain? If it drains, does the motor pause after draining and then start again?

It is supposed to pause after draining. During the initial minute or two period of drain, it does not spin because the gearcase is in neutral drain mode. Pausing of the motor allows neutral drain to release. When it starts again, it should drain and spin. If it doesn't pause, you can do that manually by simply opening the lid for a few seconds and closing again. If this doesn't put it into spin, you will need to remove the cabinet, jump out the lid switch and observe the clutch operation during spin.

the clutch makes a click noise, and its getting extremely hot..is the clutch incharge of engaging the spin mode? thank you eric. i've had this no spin problem before and it's always been the lid switch.

If the clutch is getting hot, then it is slipping. A tab on the clutch band engages the arm on the brake cam driver which releases the brakes and turns the basket drive tube. You need to pull the gearcase and rotate the brake cam driver by hand to see if it releases the brake and freely rotates the basket. If it releases the brake but is difficult or impossible to turn the basket, there may be clothing caught between the basket and outer tub.
