Model Number: WJRR4170G0WW Brand: GE Age: 1 - 5 years
I have a GE Hydrowave that will spin for the end of the wash cycle but not for the end of the rinse cycle. Here is what I know:
- The lid switch checks out, continuity when lid is closed, open when lid open - The circuit board led is blinking error code 6. The code will not clear with the unplug/plug/open the lid six times procedure. - the motor shaft/pulley/belt rotates freely. I've checked with the machine unplugged and during the fill cycle (really carefully). The fill/empty parts of the cycle operate normally as does agitate and the spin at the end of the wash cycle. Only the spin following the rinse fails. I just found the wiring diagram tucked in a pocket of the control panel. Any help troubleshooting this problem is appreciated. Some service notes recommend open/close lid up to 10 times within 12 second period after unplugging for 1 minute. Errors will not clear if washer is in either agitate or spin mode. If errors will not clear and your sure the lid switch is working, then the motor/inverter is bad. Check lid switch operation at the motor. Pull leftmost connector, check continuity between orange and red/black with lid open/closed.

Eric:
Thanks for the response. The lid switch continuity checks out and the reset still doesn't happen with 10 open/close so I guess the motor/inverter replacement is the next step. Appreciate getting confirmation before ordering a $200+ replacement part. Final thought: peaking at the inverter board, it seems likely that the culprit could be burned out 50 cent transistor or capacitor. I know it isn't in GE's short term interest to keep down repair costs but having a $200 part become disposable for lack of a 50 cent component seems like a poor value proposition. Is anyone attempting to repair these boards? (I'm assuming it is the board and not the motor itself because failure of the motor windings would have looked/smelled obvious.) |
