Model Number: LA7680XM Brand: Whirlpool Age: More than 10 years
Once washer fills to proper level and wash cycle begins, there is a loud hammer and jerk of discharge hose as water is released for 1-2 seconds, then water stops discharging, then five seconds or so later it happens again. It continues to do this throughout wash cycle if I were to let it run. if I turn selector knob to drain position, it drains no problem. This only happens during wash cycle. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Most likely the problem is a bad timer. Unfortunately this part is no longer available. Looks like it's time for a new washer.

I know its laughable I am trying to save this washer, but it is a secondary washer in basement and its like an old war horse, stable as can be. I hate to chuck it. So I'm guessing the timer is sending signal to open or close pump contacts? I am an electrician and saw no feed for pump on schematic. Thanks for your imput, let me know if timer regulates this for sure, otherwise it will have to be time for it to go. They dont build them like this anymore, everything is solid and no electronic controls, I would love to save it. Thanks again

Pull the washer out of the wall and remove the access panel on the back of the washer. You will see the part which calls "solenoid wig-wag" (#9 at the diagram). This part operates by the timer and turns the pump on and off. Run the washer and watch the wig-wag. Post the results.
