Model Number: 417.48102700 Brand: Kenmore Age: 1 - 5 years
Washer tries to spin but spins slowly with scraping/grinding noise. Noise is louder and closer with my head in the drum than with my head in the opened back of the machine. Motor and belt appear normal. I'm guessing something has lodged between the drum and the housing. When I turn the drum from behind by holding the big pulley wheel it turns pretty freely until the scraping noise begins and then it develops strong resistance to further motion. From the parts diagram it appears that to gain access to the space between the drum and the housing I must completely disassemble the washing machine including the approx. 2 dozen screws holding the housing together. Is there a quicker way to get into that space? Thanks in advance. Doug Kerr in Los Angeles.
