Magic Chef 22lb Top Load Washer Model # CAV2000 and/or W225lv Is turning our clothes into swiss cheese, everything from towels to uniform shirts to jeans. It just chews a hole in things, random areas, but it took out a levi belt loop, and spits it out in the bottom of the tub. There are no spurs or sharp metal, I checked for that using a pair of my nylons. I also removed the agitator from the inside of the tub and checked for anything wedged under neither like wood chips or matchbox racer ( I have a 7yr old) & nothing. However, the tub is loose. I can manually push it from front to back and side to side more than normal ( not that I do that regularly). The load doesn’t go off balance but its not tight like it once was.

Hard to say, the only way I can think of that this can happen is for the clothes to be caught up in the agitator while the machine is trying to spin.

If you agitator is ok it may be something in the transmission that is causing your agitator to turn against the spin. In that case given the age of the machine I think it means getting a new washer.

Thanks so much for the reply, even if it was a potentially expensive one. I am going to pull it out this weekend and tinker in back, I finally found the manual on it. I am hoping there’s a loose screw, besides in my head, that would make the drum wobble so freely. I did run a small load and watched with the hood open, when it spins, that tub is all over the place, its not a tight spin. The washer unit isn’t vibrating jumping or going off balance but that drum looks like it is ready to fly out. I’m going to give it a shot and see, if it is hopeless then I will gracefully bow out. I am hoping for a bad ring on the underside of the agitator. Any more advise before I dig in would be most appreciated, and thanks again.

Take off the front panel and watch it spin and see if you can determine the source of the weak tub support.

yup you called it. transmission needs to be replaced, everything else is good. Now the million dollar question....do I replace it at 266.00 and pray nothing else goes wrong or bite the bullet and go new. I love the extra large tub in this thing. Opinions are very much welcome please and suggestions on newer brands that won't cost the same as my mortgage payment.
