Maytag washer
Model Number: LAT9734AAE Brand: Maytag Age: More than 10 years
My washer only runs on the gentle cycle. It will only fill on the regular and perm. press cycles. The timer continues through to the end on reg and perm press cycles but no washing, rinsing or spinning occurs. At times the large timer dial must be held in place or slight pressure to advance the timer must be employed to maintain a given operation in the gentle cycle. Could this be a faulty timer? HELP!

Since it will operate correctly on at least one cycle this strongly suggests the timer is the problem.
Change it out and see if that fixes it. I feel pretty confident that it will.
