washer works through all cycles..pumps all of the water out.... will not do last spin..I looked at the motor while operating and everything is spinning up to the drum base..when you open the lid and grap the aggitator you can move the drum pretty far off center..it seems abnormally loose

Can you clarify the problem. Does the machine spin after the wash cycle but fail to spin after the rinse cycle? And are you saying that when it fails to spin the motor is running in the correct direction but the basket is not spinning?

Also, does the problem occur in all wash selections (normal, perm press etc)

Thanks

Ok, surprisingly, this is good news. If it did not spin just after the rinse it would be more difficult to trouble shoot.

The problem is probably the clutch, a pretty easy and inexpensive repair.

Here is a site that will show you how.

Clutch Replacement on Whirlpool and Kenmore Washers

Take a look at your drive block when you take out the agitator, but the likely issue is your clutch.

Here is the part.

Yes, sorry for the confusion.

Whirlpool owns Maytag and it appears this is a basic Whirlpool top loading washer sold under the Maytag name.

Click on your model number in your first post and you will be taken to exploded diagrams of your machine. See if your model does not look like the diagrams.
