Hello new guy here with a question and looking for some troubleshooting help
Have a maytag washer while in the wash cycle the tub will rotate clockwise as it agitates. I can hold the tub or the transmission to keep it from spinning. would this be caused from a bad brake clutch assembly?
Edit: Did some checking, when I rotate the main drive pulley clockwise the agitator seems to work fine. When I rotate the drive pulley counter clockwise the spins as in the spin cycle.
The original problem still the same. As the wash cycle begins the agitator works but the tub starts to rotate. If I hold the tub from spinning the agitator stills works but the tub doesn't index.
Edit: oh yeah replaced the tub seal a couple of days ago. not sure if this has anything to do with the tub spinning

We really need a model number to make a definitive statement, but the problem can either be in the transmission, or the brake assembly, but sounds more like the brakes.

Ok good
I think it is more likely the brakes. Warning, that brake spring is under 200 lbs of pressure and you need a special brake tool to remove and brake. Unfortunately I can no longer link you to a service manual, but you might find one you can download for very little money if you do a basic search.

I think so, but I am a volunteer and not associated with the parts operations here. I would call them just to confirm things. And don't forget the special took and you really need a service manual.
