I'm actually not sure how old this washer is. I purchased it used. The drive coupler on the machine is broken but I am wanting to know if the motor is bad as well. I would assume that if the motor is disconnected from the transmission you could see the shaft spin if plugged in. Is this not true? It is not moving at all. All I hear is a humming noise but I don't think it's coming from the motor itself. Sounds like from the top panel radiating towards the bottom. I am a single mom and I've never worked on one before but I definitely know the drive coupler is demolished. HELP! Don't want to have to buy a new motor! Thanks

Anything wrong with the motor can not cause the coupling to break. I don't see why you would have to replace the motor.

The motor not moving while it was disconnected from the transmission can be because of open lid switch. It has to be bypassed.
