Washer was making noise when spinning. i opened the bottom and found the tub shield loose laying inside. removed it. Don't really see where it goes or what it does even after looking at the schematic. is the tub shield a critical part or can I just button it up and run it without the shield?

I am not sure which part you are talking about either, but run it with the front panel off and if everything works fine you should be ok.
