Model Number: 110.20602990 Brand: Kenmore Age: More than 10 years
I can't seem to figure out how to open or remove the control panel. Any help would be appreciated.

On this model you can pry off the end caps. This will expose screws on each side of the front of the console at the bottom of it. Take them out and the console will flip up.
Yep, that should do it.

Pull from the top, if you want to use a screw driver you can just be careful.
If you break one don't worry, they are easily replaceable, or can even be left off without affecting the operations of the machine.
