This is for a Frigidaire Washer - Top-Loading, Model No. FWS845GCS0.

On this model the belt is on the very bottom and drives the pump and transmission. There seems to be a spring loaded idler pulley hard to see or get at from the front (front panel off).

The belt squeals loudly and seems a bit loose. A dose of belt dressing quiets it down for several loads but the squeal comes back. Maybe the belt has streched?

Is there a way to tighten the belt or is the tension from the spring loaded idler pulley the only tightening method allowed?

What is the proper procedure for changing the belt?

I would change out the belt and the idler assembly/spring. The idler is the only way to adjust tension. If you release tension on the belt you should be able to "roll" the belt off.
