Frigidaire front load washer, 6+ years old, model number FTF 530 ES1.

During final spin cycle a loud, echoing 'boom' was heard. This was followed by a clunking/slapping sound which also echoed somewhat.

The tub does still turn by hand but offers much more resistance than normal, with a steady squeaking/squealing when turned.

The support struts may have failed. Take off the back and check them out. Also the rear tub bearing often fails on these so that can be an issue also.

If it is only a broken support strut that is an inexpensive replacement. If it is the rear tub bearing it generally means replacing the machine as the expense is too great to justify repair.
