I have a Maytag Washer that is 25 yrs old. It came with the house. The motor and the belts have started to smell. Whenever the motor kicks on its really loud and the sounds like its clicking on and off. Is it worth fixing. I have talked to a family friend and he suggest that if it has the newer maytag transsmission it is not worth fixing, but if it has the older more reliable transsmission it is worth fixing for years to come. What year did maytag change there transsmissions in their washers? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi.

According the model and serial number your washer has an old style transmission.
Don't judge the washer only based on the transmission type.
Open it and check if there is corrosion inside.
