Tub/seal leak
Model Number: LAT9406AAE Brand: Maytag Age: 5 - 10 years , but just guessing A little help here, please. I posted the info below early Friday but haven't gotten any responses. Still hoping to hear from somebody who can offer me some guidance on this. Thanks.Tub leaks where transmission shaft enters at bottom. I've worked on dryers, but I've never worked on a washing machine, other than replacing the timing unit on this one a year ago. At the time, I failed to detect the tub leak and thought it was due to the tub overfilling. However, the leak has worsened. It appears to be slight when filling but more drastic when agitation and spinning cycles are in progress. Worth fixing for a novice? If so, what should be replaced? When I looked at the exploded view at first, I thought all I needed was the collar and seal atop the kit shaft. When I looked at the exploded tub view, I saw the references to the spanner (spanners?) needed and what looks like more parts recommended for replacing. If I can find the spanner(s) for rental, I'm still willing to give it a try, unless replacing parts makes it more economical to buy a new or reconditioned washer. (We bought this one used about five years ago.) Related ModelsMaytag LAT9406AAE Washer - Top Loading Maytag LAT9406AAM Washer - Top Loading Maytag LAT9406ABE Washer - Top Loading Related Models |

Without being there cannot say what needs replacing am guessing at the very least you need a tub bearing kit, Item 20 in the "Tub (1906)" section
Here are your parts Replacement parts for MAYTAG LAT9406AAE | AppliancePartsPros.com Here is a service manual which should help you decide if you want to tackle the repair. http://www.servicematters.com/maytag_library/docs/16010373%20(16001145).pdf

Thanks, denman.
Scrolling through the manual, though, I'm a little confused. The manual covers a whole lotta models and appears to detail similar repairs regarding tub bearing/seal leaks for more than one machine, without specifying which machine is being referenced.Or is the repair and the parts list the same for all the machines listed in the beginning of the manual? Second, if tub removal is required, does it make sense to replace all the seals through and including the shaft seal? |
