Model Number: MAT12 Brand: Maytag Age: 1 - 5 years
I was given a new Maytag 1/2 HP washing machine motor, model # s67pxheh-7631, part # 6 62016640-14.
It is still in the maytag box, and the person who gave it to me said they'd never used it after getting it quite some time ago. When I look at what I think is the motor start switch - a black box w/ white label screwed to the body of the motor as seen in photo: EDIT: image didn't seem to show up. The box is labeled BK, BU, RD, WH and YL. The wires coming from inside the motor have colors that match the label, but are not connected to the corresponding terminals. Blue is connected to BK, White to RD, Yellow to WH, Red to a single terminal with no place to connect an external wire, and Black to YL. Should I expect the colors of the wires from inside the motor to match the colors listed on the label on the switch? Will this kind of motor be damaged if run without a significant load? I hope to use it for some projects in the workshop, starting with a grinder (will be well isolated from grinding wheel & awful grit). Less importantly, is this a single-speed motor? It only lists one speed on the label: 1725 RPM. Thank you! It may not go in a washing machine, but it will make a big difference in my shop. Making my own tools is much more fun and usually much cheaper. Ads By Google Related Models |

You can use the motor just fine outside a machine, but as far as the wiring is concerned we do not have access to any specs on it. I can only suggest you either try to trace the wiring or try to talk to Maytag. Either one will be difficult but since you have no money involved go ahead and see what happens.
Also I don't know if that motor requires a capacitor, so you need to check that also.
