Model Number: LSN1000KQ0 Brand: Whirlpool Age: 1 - 5 years
I had an issue with the agitator awhile back and had to replace the coupling, in the process of replacing the body, I broke one of the tabs on the vacuum break, where the water fills the tub. It hasn't been a problem until yesterday. we had moved the washer and when my wife went to use the machine, apparently, this part fell into the tub and caused it to jam. We noticed it because of a burnt smell coming from the machine. It is filled with water but will do nothing else. The timer makes a noise whenever it is set to any other position, i.e. spin, rinse, etc. I checked the continuity of the lid switch, its good. My question is; what is the most likely culprit? The start capacitor or the motor? Or could it be something else? Any suggestions on what I should check without spending money on parts by replacing them until I find which it is. Thanks

Hi.
Check wire harness and plugs, start cap., motor. Remove the motor and drain pump and see if the motor will run. Check if the pump is jammed. I don't see haw the loose brake water can jam the basket? Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for Whirlpool LSN1000KQ0 WASHER - DIRECT DRIVE | AppliancePartsPros.com Thank you. Post the results. Simon.

It probably fell in the tub and jamed the basket. Go to my sticky above" replacing direct drive washer brake shoes" for info on this But you will need to buy the special spanner wrench to remove the drive block nut.

OK, Ive pulled apart the machine, checked the wiring harness, start capacitor, clutch, everything looks like it is in working order. The only thing I have not tested is the motor. Is there a way to test this using a multimeter somehow? Keep in mind, with the machine assembled, it fills with water, then stops. The timer switch makes noise on any cycle I put the selector to, but nothing happens, won't agitate, won't spin, won't pump. Really would like to diagnose this correctly before I spend needlessly for the incorrect part. Thanks again

If the washer motor never runs in any mode, either you have a motor thermal cutout that opened, or a bad timer. I would pull the cover off the timer and look for burnt contacts, then check continuity of the motor thermal cutout.
Looks like you can't take the cover off the timer.

The timer I believe still works, it will advance thru all the cycles, water fills at the appropriate times, i.e. at the beginning, at the rinse cycles, etc, and the buzzer sounds and the timer still clicks when it hits off, this is what has me thinking its the motor. I will check for continuity and post what I find, thanks
