Model Number: 110.82382800 Brand: Kenmore Age: 5 - 10 years
Washer slowly drains water (from drain hose to sink) during wash/agitation cycle and rinse/agitation cycle, eventually leaving little wash (or rinse) water in tub.

I just do not know this model at all, but usually when this happens it is the water siphoning out of the tub either because the drain hose is too low in the drain pipe or it is shoved in so tightly that no air can get in and a siphon occurs.

Thanks, The drain pipe has been in the same location for a long time and the problem has not occurred before. I replaced the timer assembly 2 months ago and the machine was working well until about two weeks ago when it would begin to drain during the wash agitation and rince agitation cycles. I raised the drain pipe another 4 inches and the problem persists. The drain pipe is well above the washer water level. It appears the drain pump is somehow being slightly activated during the two agitation cycles. Why would the drain pump be running during these other cycles? The motor is running the agitator and shouldn't be running the pump. Is there a check valve in the pump or line that may be stuck open? I would have liked to get a good idea of the cause of the problem before getting under it and removing/inspecting parts. Any other ideas? The machine may be older than 10 years, I haven't learned how to determine its age. Help...?

Not having gotten a further response, I went ahead and removed the drain pump from the machine and found that the flap part of the gate valve inside the pump body was eroded enough to allow wash water, during the agitation cycles, to leak past and out the drain pipe. In this model the drain pump impeller is always turning when the motor is running so the gate valve is supposed to remain closed until tthe drain cycle starts. My bottom line, I need a new pump. |
