I have a GE top load washer that is only 1 year and a couple of months old. A few weeks ago, during the wash cycle, we noticed the machine started making a horrible scratching noise. This only happened while washing and the machine finished rinsing and spinning out just fine and quietly. Recently, however, I've started smelling a faint almost burnt rubber like smell so we have stopped using it all together, afraid that it might catch fire or stop working completely. We have pulled off the front and I didn't see anything loose, but I am NO expert on washing machines and am not sure what to look for.

Any tips on what to look for or what could be wrong would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!
