Motor smells hot after two loads, like electrical burning. Armature core hot to touch, estimate 150 degrees. Suspect short in windings. Recently replaced coupling but that smells OK.

Is there a way to check this out before ordering a new motor?

Tom

Take off the cabinet again and take off the pump and make sure it is turning freely and nothing is clogging it.

If it is ok, then take off the motor and see that the transmission turns in both directions. Also make sure you did not put the plastic parts of the coupling on too far so that they are binding when the motor tries to turn the transmission.

If these are ok then the motor is probably the problem.

Dear Senior Expert:

Thank You for the advice. Just a FYI. I checked the motor and pump for binding. No problem there. However I believed the new coupling was the source of the problem. The new coupling with the metal insert has a interferance fit and dosn't go far enough on the shaft, causing a side load on trans. and motor. I taped the coupling on the shaft(s) to the point that they were flush with end of each shaft. If you install by snapping motor latches there is about one eighth of an inch to flush on both coupling halves. Washed a coupla loads and no hot smell.

Thanks again,

Tom

They started making those coupling pieces with the inserts and we use a socket to tap them onto the shaft to get them even.

Glad you got it fixed and thanks for the update. Very helpful!
