I recently started having the problem with my washer. It fills and agitates for a while but stops just short of the rinse cycle. If I push in the timer knob and let it sit for about 2 hours, I can pull the knob back out and it will finish the complete wash cycle. I have bypassed the lid switch to remove the possibility that the switch was the problem. I suspect the timer but wonder, could I be missing something?

Would it drain and spin before it stopped?

Would it make any noise if you will try to restart the washer right after it stopped?

When i run it in the regular cotton wash, washer stops just somewhere between the Light wash setting and where it drains before the rinse cycle. If I move the dial at all it still wont do anything. Its not draining. If I push in the timer knob for a couple of hours, then pull out the timer knob, it will pick up where ever the timer knob is set at. A little strange I know. It's almost like the timer is overheating and stops working untill it cools down.

More likely it is the motor which overheats and stops due to its overload protections. You also may want to check the wire harness to the timer.
