This is a Maytag Performa. Several weeks ago, we were having trouble because although it would spin, the clothes were so damp that I'd have to run the dryer for 1.5 cycles to get some of the loads to dry completely. I've been trying to figure out what to do about that, but when I did a test this a.m., the washer would only fill. When it gets to the cycle where it should start agitating, it doesn't do anything, no agitation at all. There's just a buzz/click sound coming from the area of the washer dial. None of the cycles work if I manually move the dial. I tried to get it to at least drain so I moved it to the spin cycle part, where it normally drains, but there is only the buzz/click sound.

Please help!

The first thing you want to check, because it is no cost, is whether or not something is caught in the pump.

If that checks out run the machine with the front panel off and see if the motor is trying to turn but the transmission won't let it. If that is the case the transmission is likely the problem.

If the motor is not turning, say even with the belt off then the motor or the timer may be the issue.
