My Maytag Model A 612 will not drain, spin or agitate. Water will fill the tub if I empty the tub of water below the setting on the console. The lid switch is good. The timer does not stop at stop. Instead it continues around the dial. There are no stuck or spinning motors sounds and the belts seem intact. In fact the unit is quiet. The thread posted by Charus Campbell sounds like exactly the same problem. About 6 months ago I replaced the water inlet valve when the water kept running. The new valve operates with a loud thunk--shutting the water on and off fast. It is much noisier than the old water inlet valve.

What should I do next?

Take off the front cover and observe the machine when it is trying to agitate or spin. If the motor is not turning then the problem can be the motor or the timer. You will need to test to see if power is getting to the motor. If so the motor is likely the issue, if not, the timer is suspect.

If the motor is trying to turn but cannot then something may be hung up in the transmission.

It may be time to consider replacing the machine. In our area you can replace that washer with a good basic top loader for about $325.00.
