Hi Everyone,

My washer just broke today (wouldn't agitate; though it is agitating me! har har har ;-) so, being the handy person I am, I jumped on-line and saw one of Gene's posts about "Whirlpool Direct Drive Washer Motor Coupling" which is exactly what the issue was. So, I ran out and picked one up. I got it installed no issue and fired up the washer and voila, it was agitating! I was very happy!! Then about 5 min into the cycle it started to emit this very loud squealing noise and I smelled what might have been rubber starting to burn, so I shut it off and disassembled again to see if I may have done something wrong. I had not.

So, that said, my question is this, I am now assuming that the washer motor coupling broke not because of the load of towels in the washer but rather, there is something else amiss. Any ideas what I should be looking for? The motor seemed very hot when I removed it this second time, so something is putting it under a lot of stress me thinks.

Would love to hear any ideas anyone has...

Cheers,
Ted
