Odd things happened when trying to do laundry. 1) settings were cold/cold, large load and nothing would work. 2) switch to warm/warm, and the washer started to fill but with hot water 3) I let this cycle run it's course, but then attempted a second load 4) this time, nothing would work regardless of what temp setting I chose. I did find that I could make the washer work by changing the knob setting for load size from "large" to "small" 5) I messed with the settings a bit more, then nothing would work 6) The only time I can now get water to enter the unit is if I rotate the dial to the rinse cycle, and it will fill (with hot water). 7) I removed the hose and the screen isn't clogged.
Sooo, perhaps it's the solenoid valve, but I'm thinking it can't be since I can get water to enter on the rinse cycle.
Perhaps something with a switch?
Also, anyone have a link to the repair manual so I can see how to remove the sheet metal and start troubleshooting this?

Well, the candidates for trouble are the temperature selection switch and the timer. The temp switch rrely fails, but sounds like the likely candidate. Here is a service manual which may be for your machine. https://secured.whirlpoo.../$FILE/L-56_4314124A.pdf
