washer was smoking the other day- let cool down and started working again - notice white powder under drum in bottom where transmission is fastened to center of metal bottom tray- thrust bear plastic grinding up? any ideas- ran short cycle the other day seemed OK- thanks in advance DKAY

That white powder is the disintegration of the snubber, this part here

It will have to be replaced, because your washer will start to wobble and make a lot of noise in the spin cycle.
