Grandmother's Maytag washer is having issues. She just moved into new house & I hooked it up for her recently. Hot and cold work when those are selected. However, if warm is selected, the water only runs hot. Not familiar with the washer, but she stated that is usually modulates hot then cold to produce warm water. Apparently it isn't doing this anymore.

I checked the hoses for correct connections. Checked the screens, which are ok. Not sure what to do next. Seems like there is an issue with the auto temp control which is not triggering the cold water to start. Is this just a timed cycle, or is there a temp sensor or something more elaborate?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Some of these models have an automatic temp control board but I don't see that on your model so try changing out the temp selection switch, this part here.

Sidfink,
Thanks for the reply.

Failure of the auto temp control seems very likely to me. Any way to tell for sure that this model has one or not? It mentions "auto temp control" in the manual.

Right now, the "temp selector switch" works correctly to change water temps to either hot or cold. It's just when you have "warm" selected that it doesn't seem to work. Does the suggested "temp selection switch" control the warm too?

Thanks again.

The temp selection switch does control the 'warm' setting as it tells the timer to let in both hot and cold water.

There does not appear to be an auto temp board on this model, but their may be something that does the same thing on the valve assembly. Here is the description.

Water Inlet Valve Assembly - This is a washer water inlet thermostatic valve with 4 terminals.

Item Number:

Part number: AP3175369
Part number: AP3175369

Manufacturer's Number: 3979346
Made by Whirlpool

So that may be the issue. So try changing it out and if that does not fix things try changing the temp selection switch. If you buy from this site and do not need the part you can return it.
