Washer started making a thumping/banging noise... Family member supposedly knows how to fix washers, and seems to think it is the bearing and said that it is not worth fixing? I do have the model number somewhere... gltf1040ASO

Your family member is right about not fixing it if it is the bearing, but it does not sound like it is that. The bearing would produce a more grinding sound.
I think a better possibility is a broken support strut or spring. Take off the back and operate the machine and see if that is the problem. If so, that is worth fixing.

Thank you for your input, much appreciated...We have since found out that it was the spider and shaft part on the back of the inner drum. It was completely rotted and broken in multiple spots. So hopefully once repaired it will working again...

Glad you found it, unfortunately it is a fairly common problem with this model.
Thanks for the update.

Thanks for the update. Good to know we're not the only ones that had this problem... Frigidaire claims they have no reports of this happening with all the mold and corrosion. I find it hard to believe...Thanks again.

I have the same problem 2 of 3 spider legs are corroded through. Did you have to replace the whole drum or was there a bolt on replacement spider option.
