Lid switch is broken. Can I snip the two lead wires and wire together and just chunk the broken switch?

No, absolutely not. Never.

This is a safety device which stops the machine from spinning when you open the lid. The reason for my strong opinion on this is that I have run into a number of folks with severe injuries from lid switch failures that occured when they reached in the machine while it was running. They caught their arm in the clothing, the machine continued to spin, and well, picture what happened next.

I understand the temtation just to by-pass the lid switch, but it is an inexpensive and easy repair. Just do it, and then you don't have to worry about it.

Thanks for your reply. I know this is a safety feature and would'nt even want to think about catching my arm in the tub. Just trying to take the easy way out, I guess. Washer is in a very tight place and I will have to drag it out into the kitchen to remove case. That is what I need to do, so will just get after it.

Actually, unless your space is really, really tight you can service it in place.

Sounds like you have already gotten to the lid switch wires. To complete the job just use a screw driver to unhook the two brass looking clips on top, and tilt the cabinet back and off. You can now replace the switch.

It is a little tricky getting the cabinet seated in the right spot to put it back on, but a little patience is all you need. Put the clips back in, connect the switch, screw down the console and you are all set.

Washer repaired the right way and works fine.
